The Pacific Northwest

My toes have squeezed into your green moistness
And my bare feet have slid on your algae slick logs.
I have inhaled your heavy, summer scent
And caressed your supple streams,
While I admired your large, curvaceous peaks.
You taste of Salish salt and juicy berries.
On starry nights, I have gazed at you in wonder,
Content to listen to your whispering voice.
Although I have travelled far from you,
I know I will one day return to your embrace.

This is another entry for https://www.napowrimo.net/day-two-11/. Hopefully you enjoy.

Home and friends

Coming Home

I tiredly scanned
The crowd at baggage claim,
Until I saw my friends.
Our hugs of greeting
The only indication
Of distance traveled.
Walking to the car,
The familiar pattern,
Of quips and conversation
Took flight;
Spanning time and miles
More quickly
Than any plane will ever travel.
As we drove along California roads
(A place I have no desire to live),
I felt the deep happiness
Of coming home.
