The Road

It time for me to go,
And I step carefully,
Onto the uneven path,
Knowing it’s a long journey,
And I have already traveled far.
Bilbo Baggins comes to my mind,
And I laugh at myself
As the road goes ever on.
Trying to be more dignified,
I divert my attention to Frost.
But the road not taken,
With all its myth and lore,
Isn’t stodgy and serious.
It brings me ever closer
To spirits both familiar and unknown.
And they laugh and romp
Renew and create.
Oh yes, it’s time for me
To be on my way.

I Believe

I believe

I believe in sadness and joy.
I believe in hope and fear.
I believe in success and failure.

I believe,
Therefore I am.
I am emotional,
Determined and insecure
Stubborn and proud.

I believe in biology.
I believe in genetics.
I believe in chemistry.

I believe

In questions.
Nature versus nurture?
It is not nobler
To suffer the slings and arrows
Of outrageous moods.
Clumsiness is inevitable.
The different drummer
Didn’t chose a different beat
He had no rhythm.

I believe there are things we will not overcome.
I believe there are things we will not change.
I believe there are things we will not accept.

I believe that
Life is not fair.
If at first you don’t succeed, you may never.
Terrible things happen.
And the idea that God
Doesn’t give you more than you can handle
Is ridiculous and judgmental.

I believe in God.
I believe in choices.
I believe in reality.

I believe
There is a god.
Not an all powerful God,
Who directs life like a puppeteer.
But a God both distant and dear.
I believe in a small, clear voice.
Sometimes we listen and hear
But it is our choice.
Our path to follow.
I believe in miracles,
But I know that tragedy
Is unavoidable.
Things may happen for a reason
But we rarely discover why.
Life is filled with pain and death.
Every moment we are faced with a choice.
Do I eat the peach?
Do I descend the stair?
Do I give in to despair?

I believe in beauty.
I believe in strength.
I believe in second chances.

I believe
Childhood may be the wonder years,
But if you look around
There is still plenty at which to marvel.
Stand under the stars at night.
Stand alone.
Feel the soft, cool, summer breeze.
Listen to the whispers of the evening.
Who else stands looking?
Sleepless in the dark,
Full of fear and loneliness
As a new day dawns, we all continue on.
This is strength.
Everyone does it.
Everyone has it.
Each day is the beginning of the rest our life
But we can’t deny the past.
A new day may overwhelm with choices.
Tragedy may strike.
I muddle through as best I can
Trying to find some value
In each experience.
This is my strength.
And tomorrow is a new day.
I may choose differently.
I may choose more wisely.
I may make a choice,
That takes the unchangeable me
Into a world of wonder
And makes it better.

This I believe.
